No There There, pencil on paper on DVD, 2013, by Marianne Walker. Soundtrack, Flight, 2013, by Oli Don.
No There There, a film by Marianne Walker, with the soundtrack, Flight, by Oli Don.
Described as compelling and mysterious Walker’s films are explorations of how the landscape, urban and natural, is mythologised. Each piece, whether projected on a large filmic scale or more intimate drawing on paper, is very quiet – regardless of any soundtrack. No conclusions are ever offered up and the work skilfully negotiates the tension between the filmic language of the slow reveal and the viewers own personal narrative.
The screening will be followed by a DJ set provided by Giant Burger, throw some architectural shapes right here!
There will also be a chance to see the films component drawings which will be sited in the space on the 19th December in the upper gallery space.
The film being screened at COLONY represents the third in a series of successful collaborations between Walker and Don. Visually it is an exploration of architectural non-places: anonymous 20th century concrete structures that are imposed onto the landscape and echo its natural forms.
Complementing the film is a soundtrack composed by Oli Don, called Flight. Don’s sound piece perfectly captures the sonic spatial character of the urban night, heightening the tension while at the same time delineating the structure of the screening space with its active sonar echoes.
